Boat and Personal Watercraft Insurance

Boat and personal watercraft insurance (watercraft insurance) policy provides boaters with specialized coverage designed for your boat or personal watercraft. Your boat or personal watercraft may be too big or too expensive to be covered through a homeowners policy, which means you may need watercraft insurance to protect it. Even if your boat is eligible for watercraft insurance coverage under your homeowners policy, you still may want specialized coverages that you just can’t get with a standard homeowners policy.

Bodily Injury and Property Damage Liability (BI/PD)

Covers your legal liability for an accident that involves injury to another person or damage to someone’s property, up to the limit of liability you select. Your insurance company pays for the cost to replace or repair damaged property and other damages you are legally obligated to pay, as well as medical bills and wage loss incurred by an injured person, as the result of an accident.

Uninsured Boater Bodily Injury

This may pay for damages when a covered person is injured and the person at fault for the accident does not have liability insurance.

Underinsured Boater Bodily Injury

This may pay for damages when a covered person is injured and the person at fault for the accident does not have enough liability insurance.

Uninsured/Underinsured Boater Property Damage

This may pay for damages when a covered vehicle is damaged and the person at fault for the accident does not have liability insurance or does not have enough liability insurance.

Medical Payments

Coverage pays the cost of necessary medical care you receive as a result of a boating accident and can be used regardless of who is at fault. Covered people include the named policyholder and anyone in the boat at the time of the accident. MedPay also will pay for injuries caused while water skiing or tubing. MedPay often is limited to medical treatment received within the first three years after an accident and is limited to a specific dollar amount. In some states, this coverage applies only after other medical insurance is exhausted.

Comprehensive and Collision

Pays for damage to your boat if you’re involved in an accident or another covered loss, regardless of who is at fault. You only pay your deductible.Collision coverage applies if you collide with another boat or object, and Comprehensive coverage applies if your boat is damaged by an event other than a collision, such as fire, theft or vandalism.
